The Philippines and Japan share a long and remarkable history of exchange that dates back centuries. From the early trade connections of the 16th century to the thriving Manila hemp trade before World War II, the two nations have built strong ties through commerce, culture, and people-to-people connections. Today, the Philippines continues to strengthen its position as one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic economies, attracting Japanese investment while offering a talented English-speaking workforce and a wealth of business opportunities.
The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan (PCCIJ) was established on March 31, 1976, as an officially recognized foreign chamber of commerce under Japan’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry, now the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). In 2026, PCCIJ proudly celebrates its 50th anniversary, marking five decades of service in fostering closer economic and business relations between the Philippines and Japan.
Our membership brings together Japanese and Philippine companies engaged in bilateral business, as well as professionals in fields such as law, accounting, consulting, and finance. While PCCIJ is not a large organization, its strength lies in its close-knit community. Members enjoy meaningful exchanges, practical insights, and valuable business connections. PCCIJ creates opportunities for its members through business matching programs, networking events, seminars, and forums featuring leaders from the Philippine Embassy in Japan and key business organizations from the Philippines. We also maintain active relationships with chambers of commerce from other countries in Japan, helping members expand their networks beyond bilateral markets. Through our network of legal and industry experts, we keep members informed about important regulatory developments, policy changes, and other updates that can affect their business decisions.
One of our most valued programs is the annual Philippine Economic Mission. By engaging directly with business leaders, government officials, and industry stakeholders in the Philippines, participants gain firsthand insights into emerging trends, market developments, and new opportunities.
